Second language learners are said to usually substitute unfamiliar vowels with more similar ones in their own language. Since correct pronunciation is very important in establishing effective communication, acoustic properties of unfamiliar and controversial American English / / pronounced by Persian EFL learners have been studied in this paper. To do this, acoustic parameters of the first three formants of [] and the similar often substitutable vowel [e]  were measured after being taped and were compared with the native American English pronunciations of these two vowels.   <br />   The acoustic measurements revealed significant differences between F1 and F2, but F3, of the [] tokens of the native English speaker and those of the Persian learners while all three formants of [e] tokens showed significant differences . Finally, in  cases where formant frequency values were significantly different between the two languages, some pedagogical suggestions were made on the basis of the acoustic considerations for articulatory improvement.<br /><br /> تحلیل صوت‌شناختیِ آواهای گفتار با اهداف مختلفی انجام می‌شود، که مقاصد آموزشی یکی از آنها است. در آموزش زبان دوم معمولاً گفته می‌شود که فراگیران، واکه‌های ناآشنای زبان دوم را مشابهِ نزدیک‌ترین واکه به زبان خودشان تلفظ می‌کنند. از آنجا که تلفظ در یادگیری زبان و ایجاد ارتباط مؤثر است، در این مقاله ویژگی‌های صوت‌شناختیِ تلفظ واکۀ ناآشنای [] انگلیسی آمریکایی توسط فراگیران فارسی‌زبان، بررسی شده‌ است. به این منظور متغیرهای آکوستیکیِ سازه‌های اول، دوم و سوم در پاره‌گفتارِ ضبط شده، با معادلِ تلفظ آن توسط فرد بومیِ انگلیسی آمریکایی (AE)، در تلفظ دو واکۀ [] و [e]  مقایسه شده است. نتایج تحقیق حاضر نشان داده است که متغیر سازۀ اول و دوم در واکۀ []، در تلفظِ دو گروهِ گویشوران، اختلاف معنادار نشان داده است ولی سازۀ سومِ این واکه اختلاف معناداری نشان نمی‌دهد؛ در مورد هر سه سازۀ اول واکة  [e]، اما، اختلاف معناداری گزارش شده است. درنهایت، در مواردی که اختلاف هریک از متغیرهای مذکور معنادار بوده است، بر اساس ملاحظات صوت‌شناختی، جهت بهبود تلفظ واکه‌های مورد نظر نزد فارسی‌زبانان، توصیه‌هایی آموزشی ارائه گردیده است. https://lsi-linguistics.ihcs.ac.ir/article_1589_dca5672ff3444c7e997aa9a2c4eb2094.pdf
